A Gentleman’s Night on the Town

Styled by Jim Fortier, with clothing from Blueprint 5

Posted

Jim Fortier has been styling menswear for over 20 years, starting at Polo Ralph Lauren in the early 1990s. He has done magazine shoots, commercials and personal styling for clients, and now owns and designs for Blueprint 5, the men’s clothing store in East Greenwich. Of creating more stylish men, he says, “my philosophy is fit, fit, fit.”

Tell us about this outfit.
The outfit was chosen for a couple of reasons: comfort and updated classic styling. Both the jacket and trousers have stretch built in for ease of movement and comfort. The jacket is cut a bit trimmer and a bit shorter, and it is double breasted. The pants are an Italian twill also with stretch. The shirt is Italian and super soft. It’s all classic, but with an updated fit and feel.

What would you like to see more of in menswear?
It is time for double breasted garments to reappear in a man’s wardrobe. This jacket by Biella Collezioni is perfect.

What fashion advice do you give your clients?

If it doesn’t fit, don’t buy it!
If you don’t love it, leave it in the store.
Have a good tailor in your life. We have a master tailor on-site who also takes in outside work.

What’s the biggest fashion mistake men make?
Many clients have difficulty clearing old items out. Men tend to hang onto items for one reason or another but they no longer make sense from a fit or style perspective. At home consultations, my job is to help clean out the past and freshen up the closet. The end result is a new look and confidence, not to mention a better love life.
