The sweet story behind a Wickford couple’s peppermint patties

Posted

“It started with a grandfather’s recipe for peppermint patties,” says Danielle Anderson, recounting the origin story behind Seacoast Sweets, the now-Rhode Island-based handmade chocolate company she and her husband, Kevin, purchased in 2018. While the business was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, the Wickford couple saw potential in a larger production facility in Pawtucket. Today, they whip up patties in coconut, peanut butter, s’mores, and, of course, classic peppermint, that have been sold all over the country – including a coffee shop in Alaska!

“We hand-make, hand-wrap, and hand-package every patty,” adds Danielle, who lists the mouthwatering ingredients found in each bite: all-natural peanut butter, shredded coconut, graham cracker cookies, and New England Fluff. Each patty is prettily packaged with a colorful label, then placed in a box trimmed with patterned paper and ribbon. One could say they’re just as beautiful as they are tasty. “People love them and keep coming back for more – and we keep making them!”

Seacoast Sweets can be found as hotel amenity gifts in Boston and Rhode Island, gifts for kiddos and loved ones around the holidays, and customizable boxes as weddings favors (one of Danielle’s favorite endeavors).
