Skincare from the inside out

Posted

When I was younger, I treated facials a little bit like I treated dessert: they were nice and sweet, but I didn’t really need them, and frankly, they were a little expensive. I enjoyed the pampering when I got one – because it always feels good to spend an hour in a spa - but my youthful skin didn’t change much afterwards. Now that I’m in my early 30s, I’m starting to need facials as a way to clean out my clogged pores, hydrate my drier skin, smooth out the tiny lines I’m starting to see when I look too closely in the mirror. Over the past year, I’ve been getting them regularly, and I’ve seen a drastic improvement in all the ways that time has started marching across my face.

It turns out that Michelle Maynard had a similar trajectory. As a young professional, she turned to facials to relieve skin problems and stress. As she educated herself on how best to care for her own skin, she became so passionate about skincare that she decided to leave her job, go back to school and open 360 Face Mind Body in Coventry.

I found her serene space on a frigid night, when I was exhausted and running on empty. I found Michelle doing a makeup touch up after a facial service, applying Jane Iredale mineral cosmetics to a woman who couldn’t stop marveling over how great her face and neck looked from her treatment. “I really see a difference,” she gushed. “Don’t you?” As she worked, Michelle told us both about her commitment to natural products, including the Young Living essential oils she’s obsessed with right now, and the Ladies Nights she’s been hosting to share them with the public.

Once I was in the treatment room, Michelle examined my skin. We had originally planned an anti-aging facial, but since I was feeling so run down, I told Michelle that she could do anything she wanted, as long as I felt refreshed afterwards. She suggested a Relaxation Facial, which uses all Farmaesthetics products, which are natural potions made right here in RI but are popular all over the country.

She started with the Farmaesthetics Fine Herbal Cleanser. As soon as I smelled the gorgeous botanical scent, I knew I’d be fine. Michelle cleansed my skin, then brushed on a Sweet Milk & Lavender Buds Exfoliate to clear out impurities. Through a massage with Nourishing Lavender Milk, application of Pure Complexion Tonic and Midnight Honey Oil, a hydrating treatment of Herbal Hydration Mask: the aromatherapeutic scents soothed my senses, and the natural products cleaned and refreshed my skin in the most gentle way possible.

I left 360 Face Mind Body looking and feeling recharged, exactly as Michelle intended. The best part, I learned as I was leaving, is that the 90-minute facial I just enjoyed cost about half of what I would have paid in Providence. Next time I need a refresher, I’ll definitely be back. 635 Arnold Road, Coventry. 401-886-1938.
