If you’ve always been curious but never actually lounged in a leather chair with a cigar in one hand and a scotch in the other, then Vintage Cigar Lounge and Club has you covered. Co-owner Greg Williams has been into cigars for at least 20 years, but his interest really peaked in the last five. Because of his growing passion, he’s created a space in downtown Westerly that’s definitely more lounge than bar. There are oversized leather armchairs, walnut veneered walls and TV’s scattered throughout. “I want people to know we are not just another bar,” says Greg. “Our lounge is much more relaxing. It’s for adults who want to spend time with and converse with other adults without yelling over crowd noise, TV or music.”
For the total cigar newbie, feel free to ask for recommendations. Cigars are similar to wine in that they each have their own nuances. But the safest recommendation Greg gives is something in the mild range, probably with a Connecticut wrapper. There are also a lot of flavored options.
For cigar enthusiasts, he offers a membership with admittance to VIP areas, discounts on boxes of cigars, 20-hour access to the lounge, access to members-only events like dinners, sports events and trips, and a personal humidor locker. “[Humidors] maintain the integrity of the cigars,” Greg explains. “Cigars can be dry or even crack if not properly cared for.”
