Martin House Books to Open in Westerly, Welcoming Book Lovers to a New Literary Haven

The literary landscape of Westerly is making space for a new bookstore in town with the grand opening of Martin House Books on April 27, marking a significant addition to the downtown arts community. Located in the historic Martin House building, this new bookstore is more than just a shop; it aims to be a vibrant community hub for enthusiasts of the written word.

Gretchen Miller, the owner of Martin House Books, expresses her excitement about integrating into Westerly’s thriving arts scene. "I am thrilled to open the doors and become a part of the vibrant arts community here in Westerly," says Miller. Her vision is to create a venue where the community can discover new stories, connect with fellow book enthusiasts, and immerse themselves in the magic of literature.

Coinciding with Independent Bookstore Day, the grand opening will feature a day filled with activities, giveaways, and opportunities to win a gift basket. It pays special attention to young readers by including a Children’s Corner with storytelling sessions and interactive activities, making it a celebratory event for all ages.

Miller, drawing on her childhood experiences in her mother’s bookstore, understands the unique atmosphere and energy a bookstore adds to a community, inviting patrons to get lost in the world of books, as well as connect with like-minded folks over coffee. Brittany Fox of Queen of Cups in Narragansett will manage Café 1888 within the bookstore, offering light food and beverages.
