The upscale Besos Tea House has opened at 378 Main Street in East Greenwich, offering tea and a whole lot more. Located in what used to be the Elms Hotel, this stylish restaurant and bar is the creation of Kristin Dellagrotta and Tony Morales, the chef at Café Fresco. Their design blends modern with ornate, with lots of mirrors in gilded frames and an onyx bar that is illuminated from underneath. The menu is global, offering only dinner at this time. Eventually they will be open for brunch, lunch and high tea in the afternoon.
The tapas menu ($8 to $20) is especially impressive with close to 30 items, mostly Spanish in origin. I’m tempted by the New York strip steak over garlic crostini with a brandy garlic shallot cream sauce, and the roasted duck legs with a Valencia orange glaze. The dinner menu ($7 to $27) offers that little something extra, such as a Caesar salad with avocado dressing, a seafood vegetable stew, Chilean sea bass prepared three different ways, Caribbean steak, and grilled French cut pork chops with papaya onion chutney. Besos is the Spanish word for “kisses,” which seems ap- propriate because I’m already in love with the exciting food served there.
Woodhouse Fire N Coal Pizza has opened at 401 Main Street in Wakefield, where Main Street Fish Market used to be located.
Two Narragansett natives, Dan Cunningham and Dave Turnbull, have opened Ernie T’s Wee Friendly Pub (pictured above) on Route 138 in the Wyoming section of Richmond. The new restaurant is named after Turnbull’s father, Ernie, who lives in Narragansett. Dan is the head groundskeeper for the New York Yankees, and Dave is a local chef. Their pub will serve lunch and dinner plus breakfast on weekends. A full bar is on the premises along with seven flat-screen TVs. The décor will feature trophies, jerseys and footballs from local sports teams, the Chariho Cowboys and the Chariho Chargers.
The Pump House Restaurant & Pub at 1464 Kingstown Road in Peace Dale closed temporarily, but is set to reopen under new ownership. It was on the market for the past year.
It’s not really a restaurant, but Sweet Petals is opening at 877 Boston Neck Road in Narragansett. The shop offers fine chocolates and floral arrangements.
