Newport Music Festival Chamber Music Series – Stephanie Chase – Violin and Sara Davis Buechner – Piano

Posted by NewportMusicFestival

After wowing Newport Music Festival audiences during the 50th Anniversary Season in July, Stephanie Chase (violin) and Sara Davis Buechner (piano) return! Their amazing performances this summer included Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Bernstein’s West Side Story.

The program opens with Mozart’s Violin Sonata KV 302 in E flat Major written in 1778 in two movements and is particularly operatic in flavor, with allusions to The Marriage of Figaro. In the same key as the Mozart, Strauss’ Piano Sonata Op. 18 transports us to a world of rich harmonies. The composer was writing his famous tone poem Don Juan and his symphonic fantasy Aus Italien (From Italy) contemporaneously.

The second half of the concert is dedicated to the beautiful works of the great composer Miklós Rózsa, whose film scores included Ben Hur and Spellbound, earning him 17 Academy Award Nominations. Ms. Buechner both met and played for the composer and has produced a full-length CD of the composer’s piano works. The evening ends with the virtuoso Tzigane by Ravel.

This performance includes Newport Art Museum admission and a complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres reception prior to the concert and during intermission.

Doors open at 6:30 pm. Reception from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
