RI Through Your Eyes

Perception can be a funny thing, especially when you get an opportunity to experience someone else’s. This is the wonderful thing about art – it gives all of us a chance to step inside another person’s head and see the world, in all of its wonder and weirdness, through their eyes. Whatever comes to your mind when you think “Rhode Island” probably won’t be the first thing your neighbor thinks of, which is just what the Wickford Art Association is hoping for with its upcoming exhibition, “Art of the Ocean State.”

Open to submissions, this juried exhibit welcomes artists across all mediums to celebrate everything that makes Rhode Island “beautiful, unique, quirky, fun-sized, and most of all, our home.” Artists can submit their work from June 19-21, with accepted entries announced on June 22 at the exhibit’s opening reception by juror – and noted local landscape painter – Anthony Tomaselli. The show will be on display through mid-July, meaning there’s plenty of time to rediscover Rhode Island through a neighbor’s eyes. Who knows, you might just see something you’ve never noticed before.
