Seas the Day

Skip traffic and travel by water to your favorite New England getaways

One of the great things about Rhode Island is the ocean. It makes for unbeatable views, day trips, and water activities, but it also means you’re not stuck taking a train, bus, car, or bike – the ocean is your form of transport, too. Why not mix up that summer road trip with a ferry ride to your favorite coastal destinations?

Block Island Ferry
Believe it or not, many Rhode Islanders have yet to experience the beauty of Block Island. Check a visit off your summer bucket list or return to this idyllic spot less than an hour away. Take it slow with the traditional ferry (55 minutes), or get to the fun faster by taking the hi-speed (30 minutes).
Depart from Narragansett and Newport.

Martha’s Vineyard Ferry
Venture to Martha’s Vineyard, that summer haven known for dining, shopping, beaches and farmland, and the setting for the movie Jaws. Lounge on the sundeck or in air conditioned comfort and make it to the scenic island in under two hours. The best part? Beating Cape Cod traffic en route and catching the sunset on the ride back to Quonset. Depart from Quonset.

Jamestown Newport Ferry
While Newport and Jamestown aren’t far apart via the Claiborne Pell/ Newport Bridge, there’s something special about taking the trip by water. The ferry service makes multiple stops in Narragansett Bay, including Perrotti Park, Ann Street Pier, Fort Adams, Rose Island, and Jamestown
Village. This summer, restored vessel Coastal Queen, will join the fleet.  Depart from Jamestown.

Providence Newport Ferry
Seastreak offers ferry service between Providence and Newport for commuters and travelers alike – with a much better view than the one outside your car window. Featuring multiple decks and an indoor cabin, and room for “bikes, boards, or beagles”! Plus, they just added a stop in Bristol. Depart from Providence.

Prudence & Bay Islands Ferry
In the heart of the Bay and part of Portsmouth, this unspoiled island offers a quieter, quainter version of a Block Island day trip. Hop aboard for a 30-minute journey manned by a crew made of mostly Prudence Island residents. Depart from Bristol.
