October 20: Before Neil deGrasse Tyson, there was a lovable nerd talking science on afterschool TV. Science is all fun and games again when Bill Nye the Science Guy comes to URI’s Ryan Center for an evening of explaining how things work.

October 20-21: There’s something strange in the neighborhood at Wickford Village’s Wicked Week and a Half, with festive Halloween events like Pumpkins in the Park, ghost tours and a costumed crawl.

October 20-22: Catch up on your sleep before you attend Vortex, a film festival dedicated to phantasmagoric cinema, with horror, sci-fi and films that will probably keep you up for a while after you see them.


October 21: Houston-based award-winning wind quartet WindSync comes to Bristol as part of the Community Concert Series at St. Michael’s Church. The young group is known internationally for their creative stagings of classical works.

October 21-22: Visit the studios and enjoy the works of some of the finest Rhode Island artists during the West Bay Open Studios. Follow back roads through coastal towns on this free and self-guided tour.

October 21-22: Learn the secrets behind a Rhode Island favorite at Kenyon’s Grist Mill’s Autumn Tour Weekend. Sample free Johnny Cakes and local coffee, warm up with famous clam cakes and chowder and tour the old-fashioned grain mill.

October 22: The Providence Flea brings a quirky blend of fun, food and shopping to South Water Street for its last outdoor market of the season. Vintage and artisanal vendors set up booths, selling everything from terrariums to handmade jewelry, and there are live music and food trucks.
