Wicked Festive Must-Do's in RI

Have fun for all ages this holiday weekend with these top picks

November 21: It’s Newport versus Providence, a battle of two Rhode Island teams. Head to the Pizzitola Sports Center to watch Salve Regina Men’s Basketball and Brown in a dramatic face off.

November 21: Give them some sugar--the band, Sugar, that is. They’ve shared the stage with the likes of Men at Work, The Go Gos, and Rick Derringer and they’re ready to add some sweet sugary musical bliss to your Wednesday night at the Knickerbocker Music Center.

November 21-30: There are few things more festive than the Nutcracker, and there’s hardly a mansion more dazzling than Rosecliff. Combine the two and you get The Newport Nutcracker at Rosecliff, now in its 17th season.

November 23-December 23: It’s a hard knock life, but the sun will come out tomorrow at Annie: The Musical. Catch the holiday classic at the Granite Theatre.

November 23: For one night only, Bowen’s Wharf turns into the North Pole. Listen to holiday and Caribbean Christmas tunes, enjoy strolling the local shops and restaurants, and see a glittering harbor at the Illuminated Boat Parade, where boats compete for the title of “Best Decorated.”

November 23-24: Some like to shop on Black Friday. Others like to rock. If the turkey tryptophan hasn’t left you couch-bound, head to the Met for an epic event with Thanksgiving Creekend: Max Creek on Friday, Saturday or both for a jam-packed Creekend.

November 23-December 16: Give the gift of art at the South County Art Association's 48th Holiday Pottery and Art Sale. Handmade holiday ornaments, pottery, prints, drawings and photography are a sure way to put a smile on a loved one’s face.

November 24: Gobble gobble, music lovers. Pump House Music Works presents Gobblefest, featuring Country DNA and The Matt Fraza Band. It’ll be a clucking good time.

November 24: A very fit Thanksgiving tradition: burn off the turkey and pumpkin pie at the 19th Annual Trot Off Your Turkey race in Barrington. There’s a 5k and 1.5k option, in addition to raffles, prizes and post-race turkey soup. All proceeds go to St. Luke’s School.

November 24-25: Treat your little one to some post-Thanksgiving bliss with everyone’s favorite: Sesame Street. Check out Sesame Street Live! Let’s Party! At The VETS.

November 24-25: You’d have to be a Grinch to be grouchy at the Rhode Island Shriners 5th Annual Festival of Trees in Cranston. Take a photo with Santa, listen to carols, shop at the Vendor and Crafter’s Marketplace and eat at Mrs. Claus’s Cafe.

November 24-December 29: Enjoy holiday grandeur at its best with Holiday Evenings at The Breakers. Indulge in some sprawling Gilded Age magic and Yuletide cheer in one of Newport’s most gleaming, glittering gems.
